Setting up your Agent

The setup walkthrough: download, connect your AI key, and run.

Pineapple Guides

After you buy an Agent, a short walkthrough opens. It takes about five minutes. You do not need to understand APIs; the walkthrough links to each page you need.

Closed the window? Account holders can reopen it any time from Dashboard → My Agents with Set Up Agent. Guests can use the link in the email we sent after checkout (valid for 24 hours).

If your Agent needs an AI service

Many Agents run on a service such as Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT). Those Agents bring their own “brain” from you: you use your own account with that provider, and the provider bills you directly for your usage. Pineapple does not charge you for it and does not sit in the middle.

  1. Requirements. The first screen tells you which service your Agent needs and roughly what it costs to run, when the Maker has given an estimate.
  2. Download the Agent. Click Download Agent to save the Agent’s file. You can only continue once it has downloaded.
  3. Connect your key. For each service the Agent needs, the walkthrough gives you three links: sign up for an account if you do not have one, add billing credits, and create an API key. Paste the key into the box. A key is a long password that lets the Agent use your account.
  4. Finish setup and download. This saves a small file called pineapple.config.json with your key inside it.
  5. Put both files in the same folder: the Agent file and pineapple.config.json. That is the whole setup.

If an Agent does not need an outside AI service, the walkthrough is only two steps: download the Agent, then finish.

Your key stays with you

The key you paste is never sent to Pineapple’s servers and is not stored by us. It is added to the config file inside your browser and then discarded. That also means we cannot recover it, so keep both files somewhere safe.

Performance reporting

Accounts get a second key bundled into the config file that lets the Agent report how well it is doing back to Pineapple. Guest checkouts do not include one, because reporting needs an account.

Running your Agent

How you start an Agent depends on what the Maker built. The Agent’s listing page and the Agent’s own files explain how to run it. If you get stuck, contact support and tell us the Agent’s name.

Keeping your key safe

  • Treat your key like a password. Do not share it or post it publicly.
  • If you think it leaked, delete it on the provider’s key page and create a new one.
  • Set a spending limit with the provider if they offer one.
